This is a simple DIY to add more space to your pantry. I needed more room in my pantry and also needed to free up some space in my cabinets.
I didn’t want to add more shelving as I felt this would crowd my pantry and didn’t want to give up any space.
So, I came up with the idea of hanging some of my things, particularly my cast iron pots. Not only did this free up space in my cabinets, but it also put all my cast iron pots in one place and easily accessible.

To Start off with
I started by measuring my wall in my pantry. I wanted my rack to be as long as the width I had available.
Wood
I went to my local home improvement store and bought three 1 x 8s. I have a saw, so I cut them to size. If you do not have a saw, just take your measurements and the home improvement store will cut them to size for you.
Hanging your wood
Find the studs on the wall by using a stud finder like this one. This stud finder makes it really easy to find your studs and keeps you from putting extra holes on your board or wall.
I used wood screws to screw the boards onto the shiplap walls. Which, in my opinion, it added an extra layer of strength to the rack. I also, countersink the screws, then added wood putty to cover the holes.
Painting
Once all boards were measured and in place, and I lightly sanded the wood putty. I began painting the boards and gave them 2 coats of paint.
Hooks
Now it time to put your hooks on the rack. I bought mine from Hobby Lobby and literally eyeballed them to the size of my cast iron pots.
So, here you have it
This DIY literally took less than an hour to put together. The painting obviously took a little longer, but this was still a quick diy project and I’m so happy with it. I know you will be too.
This simple DIY can add more space to your pantry but it does need to be in a pantry, you can make one for your kitchen, bathroom, laundry room or any room in your home that you need extra hanging space.
