Making a DIY all season wreath can be fun and very simple. Now that the holidays are gone and most of us are snowed in or waddling in the rain. I find that this is the time of year that can be depressing to many. One way to uplift your spirits is to make your winter surroundings warm, beautiful and serene.

This project is so simple and fun to make you can actually involve the kids and have them take part in this. In this tutorial, I will show you how easy it is to make one wreath for all the seasons.
What you will need:
- 1 Wire wreath 18 inches (if you make it larger you will need more fabric)
- Approximately 20 inches of jute string or about 10 inches of floral wire
- Approximately 2 1/2 yards Fabric of your choice. I used a drop cloth, that you can find here.
- 1/4 Yard Contrasting/Novelty Fabric
- Scissors or rotary cutter
- Long ruler
Fabric: I am using a drop cloth for the fabric. You can find this drop cloth here. I bleached this drop cloth to make it white and I can show you how I did this here. You can use what ever fabric you have on hand if you like. Chenille fabric also makes a very pretty wreath.
Wire Wreath: I bought my wire wreath at Michaels, however, you can find them at Walmart and Hobby Lobby. I bought my wire wreath for less than $5. The wire wreath I am using is 18 inches round.
Cutting Tool: I am using a rotary cutter because I have one on hand, however you can use scissors
Long ruler: A long ruler is very helpful but not necessary.
Instructions
First, you will need to cut strips of fabric 1 inch wide along the width of your fabric. Then you sub cut those 1 inch strips into 8 inches long.
Putting it all together
Now the fun begins!. You will take each strip and tie it to the wire wreath, making sure you are tying it tightly and tightening each knot while pulling it up towards the other knots.
You will tie your strips until you have all rows of the wreath covered! If you like, you can go one step further and customize your wreath.
I actually used the solid white as my winter wreath. You can also tie a burlap or satin bow on one end of it.
Making It Seasonal
I went searching in my fabric stash and selected some fabric for the seasons. You can make a Valentine’s wreath, Easter, Spring, 4th of July (which you can use through Labor Day). Then there’s Halloween, Fall and finally Christmas. Using your imagination is what makes this wreath so much fun.
Take your seasonal fabric and cut it into 1 inch strip wide along the width of the fabric, then sub cut those into 8 inches. I only used 3 strips of width of fabric to make the pouf.
Lay your floral wire or string down first then lay your strips criss cross on top of the floral wire.
Once you have this pouf like you want it, cinch it all together and work the fabric until you are pleased with it.
Work your pouf onto your wreath until you are happy with it. Then tie it securely to the wire part of the wreath. This is what my wreath looks like.
Going one step further
You can go one step further and make some pouf dangling hearts. Place fabric wrong sides together and cut your heart pattern. You can use a pattern from a coloring book or just draw one yourself.
You can either hand sew or use your sewing machine to sew all along the edge leaving about 1/2 seam allowance, around the heart. Leave a small 2 inch section opening so you can stuff your heart. I used some stuffing that I had on hand. When you’re sewing, be sure to catch the string with the sewing machine needle. Be sure, to sew your opening shut. Then, I then did a rag cut and trimmed the edges of the heart, making sure not to go into the seam.
You can attach the hearts to your pouf and let them dangle. This DIY wreath was so simple and fun to make. Grab some more fabric to make more poufs and now you have a wreath for every season!
Have fun with this and remember you don’t have to do this in a solid color. I can’t wait to do one with a pretty soft floral pastel fabric. You can also, alternate your fabric in red, white and blue for patriotic holidays.
Have Fun!
XOXO
