Decorating your mantel for Fall can be tricky especially if your mantle is less than 6 inches wide. I have always said that I’m going to redo my mantle and remove the columns and add a wider mantel. As usual, that is another project on my list of to do’s.
For now, I’ll have to make do with my very narrow mantle. But, I have digressed, now on to decorating your mantle for Fall.
I will show you three different looks that you can easily create for the Fall look of your mantle. These looks can be done in 15 minutes or less. It actually takes longer to gather your decor than to put it together.
Narrow Mantle
With a very narrow mantle, I had to use items that were tall or in which I could create height. This is why I used some of the items that I bought at Krumpets Home and they were absolutely perfect. I also used a wooden pedestal, to create height and in doing so, I also created a different texture with the wooden pedestal.
Example Number One
You can either add vignettes of threes on raised pedestals and select the same color palette throughout. You can do two vignettes on either side of the mantle as shown below.
I chose to add a small wooden pedestal with small pumpkins around the base of the pedestal. I balanced it by adding like items, my sunflowers from Krumpets on the opposite end of the mantle. I also added a tobacco basket with a beautiful wreath on the center wall. You could add a Fall picture, wreath, sign or any rustic wood decor such as old picket fencing instead of a wreath. I just used things I had around the house.
Example Number Two
Another option in decorating your mantle for Fall is to use a garland of fall leaves and decorate with extra greenery, pumpkins and anything you can add to it.
This makes for a very full and beautiful mantle. Also, hang a wreath on the top center of your wall over your mantle. This will bring the eye upward and not hang just onto the mantle. I chose a plain wheat wreath in the middle of a tobacco basket. Or, you could just hang the wreath without the tobacco basket for a cleaner look. Also adding pumpkins or any other Fall decor at the base of the fireplace, this allows you to start at the top and go downward for the entire look of the fireplace, or vice a versa.
Example Number Three
Another option in making your mantle beautiful for the Fall is to take things from your home, such as candlesticks, antique clocks, rusty decor, old spindles and use them in your mantle as part of your Fall look. Add Fall faux leaves, pumpkins scattered throughout the mantle to tie in the Fall Decor. I chose to add a Fall garland on the fireplace screen to balance the entire look.
You now have three great examples to start decorating your mantle for Fall. Is it too early? I don’t think so, but I start decorating for Christmas before Thanksgiving! So, I’m not one to ask.
You now have some tips and ideas that will get you started with your Fall decorating, particularly if you have a fireplace with a mantle. If you don’t have a fireplace, you can always use a dresser, sofa table or any long flat surface to create your Fall decor. Remember look around your home and use the items you already have, just group them in a pleasing way and you will soon have a Fall look, that you will love.
