Learn to make chalk paint for 1/3 of the price of store-bought paint. Have you seen the price of chalk paint lately? In my opinion, it’s outrageous! How would you like to learn to make chalk paint for 4 times less than the price of one quart of the designer chalk paint?
This chalk paint can be done for much less than any store-bought. Not only is it less expensive, but you will enough chalk paint to last over a year. Homemade chalk paint is very cost-effective. This chalk paint is very pretty, it has a slight sheen to it and looks very classy and it’s easy to learn to make this chalk paint.

Supplies
You can start with these supplies:
1-gallon flat white paint (I like the Paint and Primer in One Paint)
1 empty clean quart paint bucket
12 Tablespoons or 3/4 cup Calcium Carbonate
Water
Stir Sticks
Instructions
- Fill your empty quart can with your flat paint up to about 3/4 full, allowing room for your chalk paint.
- Add water to your Calcium Carbonate, just enough to get the consistency of ranch dressing, stir as you’re adding. Add your water slowly.
- Now, that your calcium carbonate is thoroughly mixed add it to your quart of paint.
- Mix both thoroughly and you’re ready to paint!
Homemade Chalk Paint
Ingredients
- 3/4 Cup Calcium Carbonate
- 1 Gal Flat Paint White or Any color
- 1/2 Cup Water (less or more)
- 1 Quart Empty Quart Can
Instructions
- Pour your flat paint into your clean quart can to about 3/4 full. Leaving enough room for your Calcium Carbonate mixture.Pour water slowly into your Calcium Carbonate continually stirring until you get the consistency of ranch dressing.Once your consistency is correct, pour your Calcium Carbonate mixture into your can of flat paint and mix well.It is now ready to use!

Chalk Paint Table
This is an old table, that I just cleaned off and chalk painted it. This was a super easy project. I used the Dixie Belle Satin Clear Coat to finish it off, that I bought here.
Be sure to let your chalk paint dry in between coats. I let the entire project dry 24 hours then I clear coat.
This paint is easy to make and very affordable to make. One gallon of paint and a bag of calcium carbonate will last over a year.
